Kate Paterson

Kate Paterson is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Educational Studies. Her research has focused on children’s literature (specifically traditional fairytales and “anti-oppressive” children’s picture books) in the elementary school classroom as a forum to open up meaningful discussions of gender and sexuality with young children. Her current doctoral work examines curriculum, pedagogy, and policy to support LGBTQ diversity and inclusivity in elementary education, focusing in particular on the Vancouver School Board’s sexual orientation and gender identities policy. Kate received her Hons.BA in Sociology at Mount Allison University and her MA in Social Justice & Equity Studies at Brock University.
