Throughout my past three years teaching Kindergarten in the Early French Immersion stream, my passion for learning in the early primary years has grown deeply. From my experience, I have developed an interest in exploring self-regulation, particularly in exploring the prevention of anxiety and the physiological responses to unregulated behaviours. I have been exploring the Zones of Regulation (Leah Kuypers) on my own and with various professional groups in SD40, and these experiences have completely changed the way I teach self-regulation management strategies in the classroom. I believe that children can not learn if they are not emotionally regulated, and learning the skills of self-regulation is very difficult, particularly at such a young age! I have really enjoyed using story book literacy to support my teaching and would love to collaborate with more colleagues who wish to explore this with me. I look forward to completing my Masters of Education at UBC!
