Claudia Díaz-Díaz – Living Well with Difference: Children’s Encounters through Neighbourhood Walks

February 26th, 2019

This presentation examined how children learn about difference through their relationships with their everyday places in early childhood education. Children were followed for six months as they walked through a racially and culturally diverse neighbourhood in Vancouver, as part of their daily walks in their childcare routines. Their encounters with difference speak to questions about difference, diversity, and responsibility in early childhood education, and most importantly, to a broader conversation about truth-telling and reconciliation in Canada.
